Radio Drama Evaluation

Evaluation
Our Radio Drama was based around a young boy who was going through hard times and sees many people along the way and to assure that his life was on the verge of ending. However he ends up meeting a homeless man who decides to help him and ends up saving him towards getting into danger. The homeless man told his story and ends up allowing David to understand that life is too precious to be lost.
To begin with this assignment, I had looked at many radio dramas and had found one which seems suitable and relative to the radio drama I had made. The radio drama I had analysed was based around terrorism and I wanted to end up within the crime genre as it was the most interesting and simple one to make in my opinion. This had helped me so much as we had to write a script and the storyline which was seen in the textual analysis was similar to our own drama which I feel like Our own drama is bringing out a correct message and so on. The textual analysis I had seen had many things included such as sound, either diegetic or non-diegetic sounds which allows us to create our own sound or perhaps edit some in. The pre-production task was self-explanatory as all we needed to do is to create a script which would help us record and give an initial idea of what is being said in our drama. We had invented different characters to allow a message to be shown. However more than one person had to read out two characters voice and give a different tone to their voice to sound different to what they sounded like originally. I feel like we should have had more people in our group to make it more professional and to allow different voices to be hard and to also avoid confusing the audience.
The production task was fairly easy as we were given a voice recorder which was already reserved for our class in general as well as a microphone which detects the sound to only come to you and to reduce noise reduction which allows any other sound in the room to be cancelled out. As a group, it took approximately 4-5 hours to record and 2 days to edit. The reason why it took longer to edit was the fact that we were using an application which we had never used before and it took time for us to get use to it. Our work did get lost numerous of times in which we had to redo it a couple of times to ensure we were able to use the software. I feel like there should have been a more expanded brief onto how the software works which had led to this situation. However I did take out time to edit out of lesson times and to complete the drama before the deadline. We have added many sounds in our drama such as screams and doorbell noises as we were unable to get a clear sound through ourselves and where we were specifically located in the college. As a group we decided to film in the orient section of the building into a corner where not many people really go to.
Positive Feedback: Many people had understood the narrative towards the drama and that it shows a clear message towards the audience. They also said that it is a beneficial drama as many people end up with a suicidal thought and do not know where to end up with it being dragged along their mind. Many people also like the diegetic and non-diegetic sounds which were placed inside our drama as there has been sound effect which were done naturally and some which have been edited.
Negative Feedback: The use of planning resource should have improved by adding extra edits such as different voices of sound and so on so it gives an idea that there are numerous of characters shown. Also it could have been done naturally by getting more people involved in the drama and to make it as realistic as possible.
